The Llaima volcano in southern Chile erupted on January 1, 2008.  The surrounding national park was evacuated and coated with ash, but there were no reports of damages or injuries.  Lava exploded from the Llaima volcano, one of Chile's most active volcanoes, in Cherquenco, Chile, July 10, 2008.  Officials ordered evacuations for thousands of residents in the area.
