Western Life Camp is nestled in the cool mountain canyons of the Santa Fe National Forest, located in the Gallinas Canyon, 15 miles northwest of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and about 1.5 hours from Santa Fe. The Gallinas River forms the camps southeast border, where a skyline of cottonwoods and ponderosa pines line the riverbank with quiet shade.
The altitude at Western Life Camp is approximately 8,000 feet. The air is cool and fresh, and the skies are deep blue with beautiful cloud formations almost daily. Typically, June is a month with little rainfall, while July and August often have daily showers.
Nearby are many mountain and valley campsites, within walking distance. The Gallinas River flows through camp and offers a great potential to catch fish and wade in ice cold water. Camp is home at the end of the day or at the end of the trail.
From I-25 in Las Vegas, there are two (2) main routes to take to reach Western Life Camp. Either Exit 343 or Exit 345 from I-25 can be taken into Las Vegas and, from there, to Western Life Camp.
