Prophecy

In the Bible is written a prophecy, involving Israel, pertaining to a seven-year span of time.  Most Bible scholars believe it refers to the final seven years of this age, just prior to Jesus’ return to earth to rule and reign:

He will confirm a covenant with many for one “seven,” but in the middle of that “seven” he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.  And one who causes desolation will place abominations on a wing of the temple until the end that is decreed is poured out on him (Daniel 9:27).
The wording of this prophecy varies somewhat in different versions of the Bible.  Here is how the prophecy appears in various versions: Daniel 9:27.

The seven-year period, specified by this prophecy, commonly is known as the 70th WeekNever before in history has Israel engaged in a seven-year agreement with anyone—that is, until the European Neighbourhood Policy came along.

European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)

In October of 2006, the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) was funded and established.  This accord, created by the European Union (EU), involves many nations, including Israel.  The ENP has been scheduled to be in effect for exactly seven years: 2007 through 2013.

Indications and assurances of the pursuit of peace, between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and in the Middle East as a whole, are included in the agreement.  Here are two examples:

For Israel and the Palestinian authority, the Neighbourhood Policy is a concrete sign of the EU’s engagement. ... Israel has never been willing to make such commitments in writing to any other partner (Brussels, 9 December 2004).

The EU-Israel ENP Action Plan opened up new possibilities for developing EU-Israel relations by setting out a wide range of areas for greater cooperation including: promoting peace in the Middle East... (The European Neighbourhood Policy Fiches on Partners, December 2006).

Israel was the first non-European nation to sign onto the ENP.  The Palestinian Authority also is a member.  There are several non-European nations included in the ENP.

The website of the European Neighbourhood Policy is here:

 http://ec.europa.eu/world/enp/index_en.htm

Frequently asked questions about the European Neighbourhood Policy can be found here:

 http://ec.europa.eu/world/enp/faq_en.htm

Essentially, the ENP is a confirmation or strengthening of a previous agreement or covenant: the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement.  Interestingly, one man, Javier Solana, has been the primary advocate and promoter of both.

Euro-Mediterranean Agreement (EuroMed)

In 1995, a conference was held in Barcelona, Spain.  A product of this conference was the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement (EuroMed), also known as the “Barcelona Process.”  It was (and still is) an agreement between the EU and many Mediterranean nations, including Israel.

In the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section of the ENP website, an answer to the following question demonstrates how EuroMed and the ENP share a common basis and goals:  How does the ENP relate to the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (“Barcelona Process”)?

In a 2005 speech by Margot Wallström, a Vice President of the EU, it was noted how the European Neighbourhood Policy compliments and has objectives similar to the Barcelona Process/EuroMed.  A quote in the seventh paragraph from the end is revealing:

As I have tried to point out, the European Neighbourhood Policy does not replace the process launched ten years ago in Barcelona. It renews it, clarifies it and breathes fresh life into it.
In a word, the ENP “confirms” a previous covenant, EuroMed, just as Daniel 9:27 predicts.  The ENP fully complements EuroMed and is a manifest fulfillment of its long-term goals, in a seven-year time frame.

Third Temple

In the Daniel 9:27 prophecy, a reference is made to the “temple” or, as Jesus stated (also speaking of the time of the end), the “holy place” (Matthew 24:15).  Other biblical references to this temple were made by Paul (2 Thessalonians 2:4) and by John (Revelation 11:1).  They refer to the Third Temple, which evidently will stand in Jerusalem in the middle of the prophesied 7 years (that is, after the initial 3½ years).  Presumably, sacrifices and offerings will be made in this temple.  Potentially, this could during be Passover week 2010.

The Temple Institute, founded in Jerusalem in 1987, has been making steady, ongoing preparations for the construction of the Third Temple on Mount Moriah, where two previous temples stood in ancient times.  Virtually all of the sacred vessels and vestments, including the blue robe of the high priest, have been made and are ready to be used in the Third Temple.  All that is required now is for the holy place to exist, in which all of the religious ceremonies will be performed.

The 70th Week Room Guidelines

The administrator of this room is WatchGuy1.  The primary purpose of this room is to understand about how the European Neighbourhood Policy may be an end-time fulfillment of the prophecy in Daniel 9:27.  It is not a room for arguing or accusing, nor for emotional outbursts.  Unruly, disorderly, or disruptive activity may result in the offending person’s being bounced from the room.

Outside Links

Hyperlinks to websites outside of PalTalk, if provided by WatchGuy1, are safe.  For your own protection, do not click on links to websites outside of PalTalk if they appear in the room, unless provided by WatchGuy1.  Some such links may be hazardous to your computer.

Microphones

It is preferred that communication in this room is done by typing.  WatchGuy1 generally is in a location where he usually is unable to use his microphone.  He also, typically, will have the sound in this room muted on his computer.  As such, he usually cannot hear anyone talking on a microphone in the room.

If you have a question, it is best to type it in the room, although it may not be possible for a response to be given to all questions.  If you would like to say something in the room using your microphone, please inform WatchGuy1 that you are going to do so, so that he can put on his earphones.  However, remember that he will not be using a microphone and that it will take a little time for him to type a response.

Personal Views

WatchGuy1 feels that people should believe what they want to believe.  Therefore, he is not steadfast and determined to change people’s minds about their views.

Conversely, having heard the arguments for most prophetic and eschatological views, he prefers not to be “hounded” by those with opposing views, in an attempt to convince him of their views.  A better understanding of this can be found here: Attempts to Persuade Me to Believe Things.

It is understandable that some may feel frustrated, even upset, by not being able to debate prophetic and biblical topics in this room, to their satisfaction.  To those, WatchGuy1 recommends either that they go to other Paltalk rooms, or else that they create their own rooms on PalTalk and discuss the issues that are important to them, to their hearts’ content.

Bible Versions

People in this room prefer different versions of the Bible.  WatchGuy1 prefers the New International Version (NIV), and most passages and verses quoted by him will come from that version.

There have been some, who prefer the King James Version (KJV), who have asked WatchGuy1 why he prefers the NIV over the KJV.  An email reply to this can be found here: Why do you use the NIV, rather than the KJV, for the Bible references in all of your commentaries? Isn't the NIV negligent in showing whom Jesus really was?

Rapture Views

The Rapture (Matthew 24:30,31; 1 Corinthians 15:51-55; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) is an end-time event.  The discussion of Rapture views is discouraged in this room, as such debates can become heated and unproductive.  WatchGuy1’s view is explained in his commentary here: The Rapture.  However, it is not a requisite to embrace this view to be in this room.

It is understood that those who embrace a “Pre-tribulation” view of the Rapture may be reluctant to accept the idea that the 70th Week has begun, as the Rapture has not taken place yet.  In light of the possibility that Daniel 9:27 may be being fulfulled right now, it is recommended that you study other Rapture views and consider that you may have overlooked something.

WatchGuy1, although previously a “Pre-tribber,” has been convinced for about two decades that the Rapture will not take place until the cosmic disturbances of the Sixth Seal have become manifest.  This will not be until just before the seventh year has begun and the Seventh Seal is about to be opened.

Preterism

Preterism is the view that the 70th Week prophecy, in Daniel 9:27, was fulfilled in the first century after Christ’s birth.  Some other prophecies, assumed by most Bible scholars to have their fulfillments yet in the future, also are believed by preterists to have been fulfilled in the past.

In 70 A.D., the Roman general Titus desolated Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Jewish Temple.  Commonly, the preterist view affirms that the prophecy of the 70th Week, along with related prophecies, were fulfilled in 70 A.D.

WatchGuy1 does not subscribe to the preterist view.  After decades of study, he believes that the 70th Week and related prophecies will have their fulfillment at the end of the age, just prior to Jesus Christ’s return to earth.  Attempts to convince him otherwise will be ineffective and futile.
